The role of Product Manager is critical to the successful delivery of product-based services Anthology clients. The Product Manager, in collaboration with one or more software development managers, acts as a bridge between the software development department and all other areas of the company. Without Product Managers, Anthology would not be able to effectively make the best possible decisions about what problems to solve or when to solve them.

 

 

The role of Product Manager will challenge individuals who hold the position to perfect the skills and competencies required to successfully work with software development teams. Product Managers will also further enhance their skills related to working with other types of teams across the organization. Specific skills Product Managers will learn include the abilities to: identify and diagnose client needs; make opportunity/cost trade-offs when prioritizing roadmaps; and to coordinate efforts across multiple functional areas of the organization in order to successfully develop, release, and support a product line.

 

 

Specific responsibilities Include:

 

Product Lifecycle Management

  • Evolving current product capabilities to maintain industry leadership in higher education
  • Working with product teams and other stakeholders to develop and maintain product roadmaps
  • Partnering with product teams to discover product requirements and determine viable development strategies, deliverables, and release dates
  • Defining, developing, marketing, selling, and delivering the product and the product value story in accordance with the product team’s release process
  • Translating product features into customer benefits and work with product marketing to develop messaging and positioning for our sales organization and other internal and external stakeholders

 

Customer Experience

  • Understanding and advocate for the voice of the customer
  • Tracking results, providing insights, and making recommendations to improve customer experience and ensure realization of intended outcomes

 

 

Knowledge Management and Delivery

  • Serving as a subject matter expert and evangelize the vision both internally and externally
  • Maintaining an understanding of key drivers, issues, and players in the higher ed market
  • Providing quality, written content documentation
  • Developing a comprehensive understanding of relevant competitors and industry trends
  • Attending and presenting at conferences, customer meetings, and the Anthology annual user conference

 

 

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Communicating and collaborating throughout the entire organization including with senior leadership, product teams, sales, professional services, marketing, user experience, etc
  • Collaborating with appropriate departments to assess and update pricing, competitive analysis, and profitability while ensuring client adoption and satisfaction

 

 

The Candidate: 

Required skills/qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or above
  • 2-3+ years of experience in commercial software product owner and/or product management or 5+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to engage stakeholders and collaborate cross-functionally to achieve results
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Results/solution driven approach
  • Strong strategic thinking, excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Business acumen and proficiency with quantitative business analysis techniques
  • Strong understanding of web-based technologies and related design concepts
  • Strong customer and student empathy
  • Passion for education

 

 

Preferred skills/qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of Pragmatic Marketing framework
  • Familiarity with postsecondary and secondary education markets strongly
