In this role, you will be a part of the Anthology Platform team, which helps to reshape the culture, architecture, and direction of the company’s Product Development organization. This is a motivated, creative, and energetic team that works in a flexible and agile fashion to deliver world-class products to the education market. By joining this team, you will become a core contributing member to Anthology’s EdTech Platform initiative. This future state platform will seamlessly and uniquely deliver a revolutionized learning experience through innovation, continuous delivery, and architectural integration.

 

 

As a Senior System Engineer, you will participate in an Agile team to deliver quality products and develop and maintain micro-services that provide the foundation for the platform’s underlying core capabilities and features. You will participate in the breakdown of large/complex problems and in designing and implementing solutions. You can expect to work with the latest technologies and tools including Amazon Web Services (AWS). As a senior technical team member, you will work on eliminating technical blockers and setting and evolving tech strategy. You are expected to help set dev standards, define best practices for coding and design, and conduct design and code reviews.

 

 

The Candidate:

Required skills/qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience designing and developing enterprise, containerized API solutions  
  • Knowledge of the AWS tool suite and times when each is relevant  
  • Knowledge of distributed systems and tradeoffs in consistency, availability, and network failure tolerance  
  • Knowledge of professional engineering best practices for the full SDLC, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations   
  • Ability to collaborate in development using Java, Python, Node.js, or similar technologies
  • Knowledge of RESTful web services; authentication and access management protocols and products (SAML, OIDC, OAuth); Docker and CI/CD lifecycles and pipelines; large-scale, cloud environments; AWS; cloud-based solution implementation and maintenance; domain-driven design; and service-oriented architecture
  • Experience with test-driven development, container-based technologies, AWS services (i.e. DynamoDB, CloudFront, or Aurora), scripting languages (i.e. Python, Ruby, or Groovy)
  • Proficient in common storage and messaging technologies (SQL, NoSQL, Redis, Kafka, Elasticsearch)

 

 

Preferred skills/qualifications:

  • Experience with service meshes, microservices  
  • Extra-curricular data projects or open-source contributions that you’ve developed on your own  
  • Previous experience in the education industry and with e-learning technologies
