This role focuses on our Teaching and Learning Platform, which provides students with a simple and intuitive learning experience that they can access anytime and anywhere. It’s a solution that’s continuously evolving to meet users’ needs, and we’re looking for someone to join the team and get deeply involved in the existing product code base, improving the quality, and enhancing the functionality of the product. 
 


As a member of our Product Development team, you’ll work in an agile environment delivering industry-leading SaaS products and web service platforms. You’ll be deeply involved in translating wireframes and sketches into working prototypes to refine user interface behaviors. 
 


As Software Engineer, you will be responsible for web application development and demonstrating expertise with Java, JavaScript, REST APIs, etc. You will be active in the agile team by participating in daily stand-ups, design sessions, code reviews, and sprint demos. You will embrace test development as an integral part of what you deliver as a software developer. You will also be responsible for delivering and maintaining cloud-based applications including troubleshooting, minimizing downtime, and quickly responding to client-reported issues.
 


Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Becoming an active member of an agile team of developers
  • Participating in daily stand-ups, design sessions, code reviews, and sprint demos
  • Embracing test development as an integral part of what you deliver as a software developer
  • Being willing to respond to the unique challenges of delivering and maintaining cloud-based software including troubleshooting live production environments, minimizing downtime, and responding to client-reported issues

 


The Candidate:

Required skills/qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience designing, writing, and deploying scalable software
  • Proficiency with the Java stack, SQL databases, and web application development
  • Excellent Object-Oriented design and coding skills
  • Experience writing unit and integration tests
  • Ability to work with a team of engineers on cross-functional agile projects
  • Understanding of data structures, algorithm analysis, and design skills
  • Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and demonstrated proficiency with API concepts and design
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to use both to communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Quick learner with strong problem-solving and analytical skills 

 


Preferred skills/qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of experience designing, writing, and deploying scalable software
  • Knowledge of Amazon Web Services (S3, EC2, RDS, Lambda, IAM, SQS)
  • IntelliJ IDEA or Eclipse IDE knowledge
  • Experience with a version control system (Git, Perforce, etc.)
  • Experience with a bug tracking system (ADO)
  • Build tools experience (Maven, Gradle, Ant, etc.)
  • Basic Struts, Spring knowledge
  • Basics about web application server technologies (Tomcat or similar)
  • Experience with databases Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL
