This role focuses on SafeAssign, Anthology’s cloud-based solution for plagiarism checking. As Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for web application development and demonstrating expertise with Java, JavaScript, REST APIs, etc. You will be active in the agile team by participating in daily stand-ups, design sessions, code reviews, and sprint demos. You will embrace test development as an integral part of what you deliver as a software developer. You will also be responsible for delivering and maintaining cloud-based applications including troubleshooting, minimizing downtime, and quickly responding to client-reported issues.
 

As Senior Software Engineer on our team, you will be responsible for full-stack design, development, and maintenance of product features. You’ll also communicate and partner cross-functionally with teams in the product and software development. In this role, you will work on the product, using multiple technologies for back-end (mostly Java) and front-end (mostly JS-related tech). We run our applications in the AWS cloud and use Git for version control. You’ll work on a distributed team, collaborating with colleagues around the globe.

The Candidate:

Required skills/qualifications:

• At least 5 years of proven hands-on software development experience
• Knowledge and working experience in back-end development (the Java stack, SQL databases, and web application development)
• Knowledge and working experience in front-end development (JavaScript libraries/frameworks such as React/Angular, CSS3 using TypeScript)
• Experience working with cloud technologies
• Familiarity with relational database design and querying concepts
• Solid foundation in algorithms and data structures, object-oriented design, and coding skills
• Strong problem-solving skills in large, scalable, complicated systems
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences
• Passionate about learning new skills and technologies and leverage them
• Fluency in written and spoken English

Preferred skills/qualifications:

• 5-8 years of experience
• Experience using AWS services such as RDS, EC2, ALB, DynamoDB, or others
• Experience with REST APIs, Java, Spring framework, microservices, etc.
• Experience with performance tuning against large, scalable, cloud-hosted services
