This role focuses on the Training and Development Manager, a product that enables institutions to manage course catalogs, course registration and learner dashboards to enable a high-quality experience for students. We’re looking for software engineers to join our team that empowers schools and students to have a more engaged and fulfilling experience within higher education institutions. You will be working with a cross-functional team that participates in the full lifecycle of product development from discovery to development to deployment. We thrive in curiosity and in experimenting with new techniques and are looking for someone who is motivated by delivering value.

 

As Senior Manager, Software Engineering, you will work closely with the Development, QA, Cloud, User Experience, and Product Management teams to solve a wide variety of technology challenges and to deliver new feature and original system releases, while advocating for, evangelizing, and implementing engineering best practices across the team and organization. You will work and coordinate with other team leads on cross-team projects to ensure dependencies are identified, understood, and managed. These teams design, develop, maintain, and deploy scalable multi-tier enterprise web applications leveraging technologies such as Java and TypeScript.

 

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, implementing and testing solutions for the areas of the application owned by the team
  • Understanding and demonstrating Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) practices
  • Implementing security best practices throughout the development and deployment lifecycle
  • Taking ownership of the team's product areas running in production
  • Resolving production issues and defects for solutions owned by the team
  • Ensuring proper team and cross-team communication practices
  • Guiding/contributing to process improvement initiatives on the team and across the organization
  • Leading/participating in solution design
  • People management and mentoring team members

 

The Candidate:

Required skills/qualifications:

  • 6-10 years experience within cloud software development and management
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • A proven track record of managing and growing high performing teams
  • Experience with server-side technologies and relational and/or NoSQL databases
  • Experience with cloud-based hosting solutions and developing APIs
  • Ability to break down large, complex problems and to lead the process of design, implementation, testing, and rollout of automation projects and solutions
  • Ability to solicit and develop a roadmap for improving the tools that support the various engineering teams
  • A working understanding of software engineering best practices and experience with Agile methods
  • Experience working with product management at a senior management level
  • Experience with large consumer-facing applications
  • Fluency in written and spoken English at CEF B2 level or above
