This role focuses on Illuminate, a product that helps institutions consider the quality and effectiveness of the online educational experience. Understanding how widely online tools and content are being used across the institution is the first question that needs to be answered. Illuminate provides the essential insights and data access that Anthology SaaS clients need to effectively manage the EdTech platform, powered by Illuminate. As a member of the Illuminate team, you will join a group responsible for industry-leading SaaS products. Our team includes engineers, designers, and product managers, all focused on improving student success around the globe. We believe in agile practices to build our software and in continuously delivering features and improvements to our users. You are a person who is always pushing your teammates to do their best work and is intolerant of anything else. Our team believes that a successful product is built by working with designers, product managers, and operators to understand the full cycle of software development.
Specific responsibilities will include:
- Analyzing problems and solutions that appropriately trade-off architectural constraints of functionality, usability, performance, reliability, and scalability
- Implementing backend features and supporting them during quality assurance, user acceptance testing, and post-release
- Performing root cause analysis of product issues and their resolution
- Working with peers to determine the long-term architectural direction
- Ensuring accessibility and security compliance
The Candidate:
Required skills/qualifications:
- 2-5 years of software development experience in large-scale, multi-platform environments
- Good command of at least one backend programming language and willingness to learn and use Python daily
- Familiarity with relational databases (SQL), ideally Snowflake
- Knowledge of the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences in a global environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience
- Fluency in written and spoken English
Preferred skills/qualifications:
- Working experience with Web Services (REST API), CI/CD lifecycles and Git
- Experience with BI reporting tools such as QuickSight, Power BI, or similar
- Hands-on development experience with service-oriented architecture (SOA) or microservices
- Knowledge of AWS (Amazon Web Services) and serverless/functionless technologies
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies, specifically Scrum
