Anthology’s Student Development team focuses on using both industry standards and cutting-edge technologies to develop innovative solutions that are essential to our user’s success. As a Manager of Software Engineering, you will become an active member of an agile team of developers participating in daily stand-ups, design sessions, code reviews, and sprint demos. You will embrace test driven development as an integral part of what you deliver as a software developer. You will also be willing to respond to the unique challenges of delivering and maintaining cloud-based software including troubleshooting live production environments, minimizing downtime, and responding to client-reported issues. You would build the capabilities for looking at the complete stack of technology layers for providing fixes and developing features.
Primary responsibilities will include:
- Directly managing and supporting the Engineering team in delivering high quality, web-based applications in a timely manner
- Managing hiring processes for new team members (Developers, Quality Assurance Engineers, etc.)
- Holding one-on-one meetings with existing team members to review and analyze performance to identify any training needs and aid in the growth of the individual
- Participating in Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, daily standups, and retrospectives
- Overseeing the delivery team’s daily actions and offering advice and direction as necessary
- Creating, managing, and monitoring team oversight reports for releases, team utilization and capitalization, capacity, and quality
- Clearing blockers for the team and helping them prioritize new features and technical debt
- Helping shape software development processes, systems, and tools for a growing product development team
- Working cross-functionally with other leaders in the organization to identify and meet business priorities related to software development and the general IT needs of the company
The Candidate:
Required skills/qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or similar technical discipline or equivalent demonstrable experience
- At least 8 years of relevant experience in software development
- 4-6 years managing software engineering teams
- Certified in Scrum/Agile
- Experience with Agile Techniques
- Experience managing release activities in Azure DevOps
- Experience in Microsoft Power BI Reporting
- Experience developing standards and procedures to determine and improve product quality
- Thorough understanding of software development life cycles
- Strong communication skills (oral and written)
- Proven leadership abilities focusing on continued improvement and growth of teams
- Ability to manage conflicts and assist with finding resolutions
- Strong decision-making/problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills
- Results-oriented
- Takes accountability and self-motivated
- Goal oriented, reliable, and enthusiastic
- Fluency in written and spoken English
Preferred skills/qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Computer Science
- 2 or more years as Software/Application Architect (or performing similar responsibilities)
- Experience working in a Software as a Service model (SaaS)
- Experience with cloud-based hosting solutions (AZURE)
- Experience with multi-tenant solutions
- Experience in implementing XP (Extreme Programming) practices
