We are building out a group within Anthology focused on enterprise data services at scale. This team’s mission is to bring data together from across our extensive product lines into our cloud-based data lake. We are the analytics and data experts at Anthology. Our team enables other development teams to utilize the data lake strategically and effectively for a variety of our products. We deliver products and services for analytics, data science, business intelligence, and reporting. 

 

The successful candidate will have expert-level understanding in software design, software development, scaled infrastructure, containerization, enterprise build patterns, pipeline development, configuration management as well as strong cross-team and cross-department problem-solving skills, complex analytical thinking skills, and strong collaboration skills.

 
 Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Learning quickly and developing creative solutions that encompass performance, reliability, maintainability, and security 
  • Applying thoughtful design and architectural principles to solutions using Java, Kubernetes, Helm, and other components to support our products that utilize an expansive data lake  
  • Working with the development manager and product manager as well as design, architecture, data science, and engineering teams to coordinate standards adoption, foundational improvements, and process changes necessary to continue high-performing, highly achieving cross-team collaboration 
  • Being willing to respond to the unique challenges of delivering and maintaining cloud-based software. This includes minimizing down-time, troubleshooting live production environments, and responding to client-reported issues 
  • Through continued iteration on existing development processes, ensuring that we’re leading by example, fixing things that aren’t working and always improving our expectations of ourselves and others 
  • Thriving in the face of difficult and complex problems 

 The Candidate:

Required skills/qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience developing enterprise, containerized API solutions 
  • Expert knowledge of modern development practices including environment and configuration management 
  • Expert knowledge of the AWS tool suite and industry tools that are available that capitalize on cost savings, performance, and reliability 
  • Expert knowledge of professional engineering best practices for the full SDLC, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations  
  • Experience as a tech lead on a team that collaborates with multiple other teams and individuals 
  • Experience with service meshes, microservices 

 Preferred skills/qualifications:

  • Experience with Redis/Elasticache and/or Elasticsearch 
  • Extra-curricular data projects or open-source contributions that you’ve developed on your own 
  • Previous experience in the education industry and e-learning technologies
